Maternity leave, Not sick leave, for T-Boz!
10/3/2000
Will she or won't she? There seems to be some confusion as to whether TLC's Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins will ever tour again with the group. As of this moment, however, the singer says she will.
Press reports last week indicated that the singer planned to retire from touring due to her struggle with sickle-cell anemia. This week, however, T-Boz has issued a statement that her planned touring hiatus is due to her pregnancy, not to her illness. Although Watkins does have sickle-cell and has done public-awareness work on the disease, she says that the upcoming birth of her child, who is due on October 29, is her reason for wanting to take it easy for a while and that her current health is fine.
TLC's next project, a greatest-hits album that may also include three or four new tracks, is in the works, as are solo projects from the other TLC members. T-Boz also plans to do solo work, including a contribution to the "Rugrats in Paris" soundtrack called "My Getaway," to be released November 7.

'N Sync 'N Ployed by Grinch
10/3/2000
Now that they've stolen the hearts of teenage girls everywhere, the boys of 'N Sync are poised to steal Christmas.
Actually, the Orlando, FL-based boy band is set to contribute a tune to the "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" movie soundtrack, alongside Faith Hill ("Where Are You, Christmas?") and Jim Carrey and Busta Rhymes, who -- get this -- will perform a duet of the classic "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch."
The 'N Sync tune is titled "You Don't Have to Be Alone." Hmm, could they be singing to Cindy-Lou Who? The soundtrack is due out on November 7, while the film, starring Carrey as the green meanie, is set to debut November 17.

Destiny's Child Make Tracks for Screen and Stage
10/2/2000

The music of Destiny's Child will be coming soon to a theater near you -- on both the stage and the screen. Soundtracks to the film "Charlie's Angels," to be released in mid-October, and to the play "His Woman, His Wife," will both feature songs by the band.

The much anticipated "Charlie's Angels" film, a remake of the '70s television series, starring super-babes Lucy Liu, Cameron Diaz, and Drew Barrymore, will also feature music from Aerosmith and Moby, in addition to Destiny's song "Independent Woman."

The second project, "His Woman, His Wife," is a contemporary play about a young couple living together out of wedlock and the issues they face, set to an R&B and gospel soundtrack. The soundtrack album will feature songs used in the show and new tracks by Kirk Franklin, David Hollister, Stephanie Mills, and a track by Beyonce and Kelly of Destiny's Child. No word on why third "Child" Michelle Williams isn't a part of the "His Woman, His Wife" project, but given the group's multiple personnel changes in recent months as well as their increasing interest in separate projects, nothing is surprising.
